About EAN Check

EAN Check is a set of 14 free barcode tools for people who print, sell and ship products. You can work out a check digit, make a barcode at the GS1 size, find out what an unknown code on a label is, and convert UPC-E and ISBN numbers. The site has been online since 1 December 2018 and is run from Sweden.

From one calculator to 14 tools

The first version was a single page that calculated the last digit of an EAN-13. The identifier, the GS1-128 parser, the barcode generator and the rest came later, one at a time. The changelog lists every version since 2018, with what was added, changed and fixed.

Where the answers come from

The tools follow the published standards, not other websites. Check digits, barcode sizes, Application Identifiers, UPC-E and GS1 Digital Link come from the GS1 General Specifications. The end of each tool page lists the sources that page uses, with the section number where it matters.

Every tool runs in your browser. The codes you type are worked out on your own device and are not sent to us. The privacy policy names the one exception: a feedback box you have to press Send on.

Browser agents that call the site's tools get the answer from the same code as the page. So do AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT through the site's MCP server at https://eancheck.com/api/mcp. A code checked by an agent and a code checked by hand give the same result.

When a tool gets something wrong

Send the exact code you typed and the address of the tool to contact@eancheck.com. Copy the code from the tool instead of typing it again, so a mistyped digit does not hide the real fault. A fixed answer goes into the changelog under Fixed, with the version it shipped in.

How the site is paid for

The tools are free, with no account and no paid tier. Ads from Google AdSense pay for the site. We do not sell the codes you check or any data about you.

Lime Convert and Aarrange are sister sites. Lime Convert has text tools that clean up a list of codes before you paste it here.
